Marco Materazzi believes current Real Madrid manager  Rafael Benitez is “scared of his own shadow” and jealous of Jose Mourinho.

The former Italian International played under Benitez  at Inter Milan in 2010, after Spaniard  replaced recently axed Chelsea boss, with World Cup winner endured difficult relationship with his former manager.

Rafael Benitez was sacked by Nerazzurri after he lost the dressing room, and Marco Materazzi is the critical of former Liverpool manager’s  credentials to handle the bigger players.

Since leaving Inter Milan,  Rafael Benitez managed Chelsea and  Napoli before he took the charge of Real Madrid in the summer, and  Materazzi claimed Spaniard is not capable of leading big club like Real Madrid.

“Benitez was afraid of his own shadow. He was jealous of the memory of Mourinho,” Materazzi told La Re reppubblica.

“I had a booth with photos of my successes and Benitez forced me to take them down.

Materazzi went on saying there is no no comparsion Benitez and Mourinho, as he rates him very highly despite of his sacking from Chelsea.

“Mou remains the world’s best. The crisis of the third year is nonsense,” the Italian added.

“At Porto, he won the Champions League in his third season, the first time at Chelsea he was fired in September, which was too soon and with Real Madrid he reached a Champions League semi-final and the Copa del Rey final.

“If he had started [at Inter], we would have won everything; the league, the Europeans Super Cup and with the Champions League you never know.”

Rafael Benitez is under the severe pressure, after Real Madrid recent setbacks with Jose Mourinho has been linked with Real Madrid return.
