Ronaldo’s weakest Real Madrid start to a season seems to be 2016-17

Cristiano Ronaldo is the star of Real Madrid. Ever since he joined the team in 2009, he has had one successful season after another. Not only has he managed to give performances that have made him a good player on the stats table, but he has also contributed to his team’s climb to the top spots on the list of best clubs. However, since the 2015-16 season, he has been under the radar; critics and the media have been constantly evaluating his performances, and presuming his decline, even though much of it is untrue and baseless. However, it seems that 2016-17 is Ronaldo’s weakest Real Madrid start to a season.

In the 2016-17 season, Real Madrid has so far played in 6 La Liga matches and 1 Champions League clash. Of these, CR7 has made appearances in 3 La Liga battles, and he was also there to represent his team in the UCL match. His limited number of appearances for Real Madrid has been because of the injury that Ronaldo sustained while playing for Portugal against France in the  final match of Euro 2016. To give him the chance to recover fully, and return to the field only after gaining completely fit for the matches, Real Madrid management kept him off the field on as many matches as possible.

Out of the 3 La Liga matches in which Ronaldo has played, CR7 has scored a goal in the first match, besides scoring for his team in the UCL match. The team and its fans were happy to see such a good start, but his performance dropped, as he failed to score in the other two La Liga clashes. And, this is the worst start to any season of Ronaldo with real Madrid since he joined it in 2009-10.

Critics say that his form has been since the end of the last season. 2016-17 seems to be his weakest season since 2010-11, which is striking, especially since just one season ago, i.e. 2014-15, he had scored 10 goals after six matches. Sadly, Ronaldo has also been taken off the field in two games. Whatever the reason, the fact remains that he is under a lot of pressure. It is also true that stats and numbers are not enough. The entire season is left for Ronaldo to prove his worth by bouncing back soon, and let’s hope that the slow start will lead to a quick upturn.
