“A month ago I thought at this time I would be on holiday on the beach, but I feel very comfortable and I really want to play. I’m wearing the number nine, which is a number I love.

“Zidane and Benitez are two great coaches. They have different styles and neither is better than the other, each has his methods.

“I am very happy with both because they trusted me and gave me the chance to play. I’m very grateful.

“It is very difficult to get a place (for Real Madrid and Spain) as there are great players on both teams and a deep squad.”

While, former Real Madrid manager Jorge Valdano has hailed  his compatriot Lionel Messi, and he does not believe that Barca talisman needs to win international tournament in order to prove his genius.

Speaking to goal.com Valdano said:

“Messi doesn’t need anything else to be Messi. Winning the Copa America would strengthen his emotional ties with Argentina, but a Copa would add nothing to his status as a genius.”

“What I want is to enjoy him (Lionel Messi). A debate on Messi is empty to me. It is tiring to me having a debate on something that is obvious,”  Valdano enthused.
Messi is the product of a very rich footballing culture that has already given us Di Stefano and Maradona to name just two of the most recognised talents. I hope we’re able to maintain the strength of that culture. But seeing another Messi is improbable.”
