Marcelo reacted to Real Madrid win against Barcelona

Marcelo says Real Madrid had to suffer in their 2-1 win against Barcelona.

“It was a deserved victory, we knew we had to suffer,” the left-back said after the game.

“Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world, it’s very difficult to play at Camp Nou and we had a debt to the fans, but today we proved that we could [pay it back].

“All the teams who play Barca have to suffer, and the counterattack made things easier for us.

“From Keylor [Navas] to the whole team, the players did well. Playing against Barca is very difficult, but at times we kept the ball.

“Staying back is very difficult, but the first thing is to defend.

“These are three points and they give us the determination to keep fighting.

“[On Ramos’ red card], he’s very big, he didn’t hit [his opponents’] ear, but it’s problem, he always does everything to help the team.”

Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta insists that Clasico loss will have no affect on their Champions league tie with Atletico Madrid.

“Mentally it won’t affect the game on Tuesday. It hurts us because losing hurts everyone and we didn’t add the points but we have to consider the things we haven’t done well so we don’t repeat them on Tuesday, another competition,” the Barca skipper said, Marca reports.

“We have to try to improve for Tuesday. We continue in the League and we’re in a very good position.”

Iniesta denied that Barca were suffering from a lack of fitness, and admitted it was disappointing to lose on a day that also saw the late Johan Cruyff honoured.

Marcelo reacted to Real Madrid win against Barcelona“It’s a pity, that on a day like this, when we all had Cruyff in mind, that we couldn’t win,” he lamented.

“I don’t think anything can be attributed to our physical condition. At 1-1 we lacked control and positioning. We were caught on counter-attacks and they’re very dangerous. It was more an issue of positioning.”

Iniesta concluded, though, that Barca are still well-placed in La Liga, and didn’t rule out a late Madrid title challenge.

“It’s the League, there are options until the end,” he noted regarding the Clasico winners.
