Roy Hodgson has branded Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, after he claimed that England lacks passion and desire.

With England set to face Wales in their second fixture of the Euro 2016, Bale’s comments has raised the temperature, as Three Lions desperately looking for win following their 1-1 draw against Russia.

“Receiving disrespectful comments is part and parcel of being a footballer and a football coach,” said Hodgson, after England opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Russia.

“I don’t ever comment on other people. I’ve been in the game sufficiently long to know every opponent has got an opinion, the other day it was [Russia goalkeeper Igor] Akinfeev saying we were the worst seeded team and now it’s Gareth Bale.

“They can have those opinions but I don’t have any doubts personally about our patriotism or desire and that’s the important thing.

“If he believes that that’s the case, he’s welcome to that opinion.

“But we know who we are, we know what we are. We don’t have any doubts about ourselves in that respect.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric believe  Croatia can go all the way in the Euro 2016, following their 1-0 win over Turkey on Sunday.

We’ve shown that we’re a great team, and we played against great opponents,” he said after the game.

“What I can say is that I hit the ball perfectly, and I must thank God that it turned into a goal.

“I’m happy with both [the goal and win], but more so for victory, which is what matters.

“We still have two very tough games left, the first of them against Czech Republic.

“We can’t be suckered into the euphoria and must have confidence in ourselves.

“We’re still not through, but it was important to win and we did that.”
