Granada coach explains why his side did not deserve to lose against Real Madrid

Granada head coach Jose Ramon Sandova says his side didn’t deserve to lose against Real Madrid on Sunday.

While draw seem to fair outcome of the proceedings at 1-1, Luka Modric took his time to score a beauty in the 85th minute, which was enough to seal the win for Real Madrid.

Ramon was happy with the display of his team, but suggests Real Madrid are not the worthy winners.

It bothers me a lot [the result] because of the effort that the team put in,” Sandoval said.

“The side did not deserve what the final score showed. It has now been two games against Madrid where we did all we could but were unable to score enough.

“But the ovation we got from the crowd gave the team a lot of spirit because they know how much effort the players put in, and that’s all you can ask for when you play Madrid.

“They’ve come from destroying other teams and we made it difficult for them. We lost because of a goal from outside the box – a bit of genius from a player.

He added: “Today, with Madrid winning, they will go home knowing they did not deserve to win.

“A draw would have been justice.”

Zidane, who won his first away game as Real Madrid manager, praised the attitude of his team.

“You also need to think that when we play away, we are playing against a team that has their fans behind them. It is normal that it is more difficult,” added Zidane.

“I was most struck by the attitude of the players. There will be no easy games, those don’t exist in football.

“You have to fight until the end and I’m happy that is what we did.”
