“He’s an exceptional and awesome player who has a long future here at Real Madrid,” Calderon said.

“The injuries he’s had are not good and he’s come in for some punishment, but he’s growing.

“I think Real Madrid made a great decision to get him and if he plays like he is right now he’ll be very important for the club.”

Ex Los Blancos chief revealed that Rafa Benitez was not the first choice to replace Carlo Ancelotti, as Real Madrid tried to bring Jose Mourinho.

“Benitez was a Coach who was already a dead man walking from the start at Real Madrid. That’s because he wasn’t the chosen one, he was the fourth option,” Calderon pointed out.

“They tried to bring back Mourinho but the Portuguese didn’t want to go back, and he gave some excuses with many conditions.”

Speaking about  Cristiano Ronaldo, Calderon admitted that player like him are impossible to replace and hoping former Manchester United man will not leave the Spanish Capital in the Summer, as he is  one of few players who can score 60 goals in one season.

“It’s going to be difficult to have a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, who scores 60 goals.

“[It’s] very difficult to find a key player as much as Ronaldo is on the pitch, so I just hope he is not leaving Real Madrid. I don’t see a substitute. There are many good players but nobody is like him.”
