Former Real Madrid manager Bernard Schuster hailed Cristiano Ronaldo, but believes Los Blancos doesn’t have squad depth to compete with their arch rivals Barcelona.

Schuster suggested that Real Madrid should have better planning to avoid unnecessary injuries, which greatly contributed to their mixed season and ultimately cost them league title in the longer run.

Commenting on Ronaldo’s well crafted 4 goals haul against Celta Vigo, he said: “I expected Zidane would be able to explain Ronaldo which is the best way to shoot the free-kicks. His ‘folha-seca’ is widely known across the world. Now, he is seeking a more controlled and less powerful shot.”

The former Real Madrid boss believes that current squad lacks proper balance:  “Real Madrid need a team of starters. The squad is unbalanced. I think it is ridiculous that Mayoral plays if Benzema is injured and that Danilo plays at left-back if Marcelo is injured.

“It’s ridiculous that if Benzema doesn’t play then Mayoral does, and if Marcelo doesn’t then Danilo does.

“They just dedicate themselves to scoring goals, period.”

While, Real Madrid left-back Marcelo says he is unhappy with the Communication breakdown with national coach which led to his absence from the Brazil squad, after he has been overlooked for World Cup qualifiers.

“I explained to him that I resumed training on Thursday, the same day [Dunga] had to name his squad.

“I planned to tell him how I felt after training that day, and when I left the session and went to tell him, I’d already been left off the squad.

“It bothered me because I want to be considered by my national team at all times.”
