Cristiano Ronaldo is dreaming for ‘tears of joy’ when Portugal will face France in Euro 2016 final on Sunday.

Ronaldo was instrumental in Portugal’s 2-0 win over Wales in Semi final, and now Real Madrid star is hoping to avoid heart break of Euro 2004, as  Seleccao endured shock defeat in the hands of Greece.

“The most important thing was that the team believed we could get to the final,” added the 31-year-old. “Nobody thought Portugal could get to the final, but we are there. That makes me proud and happy.”

“I hope we will be smiling after the final and that it will be tears of joy in the end,” said Ronaldo, who had wept after his team lost to Greece at the Euro 2004 decider.

“I have always said my dream was to win a trophy with Portugal. We are closer to doing it and I believe we will win.

“The national team is everything. I want to help the national team as much as I can, not only with goals but also by running and coming back to defend,” he said. “I have given everything and the team work has been excellent.”

“It’s something I’ve dreamt about since the beginning [of the tournament],” he said after the game.

“We knew it’d be a long path to follow, but we were always in the mix.

“We believed from the beginning, even when we had a difficult spell, but as I always say, you can start badly as long as you finish well.

“This Coach, these players, the medical department, they all deserve it. We haven’t won anything yet, but the dream is here.

“I hope to smile or, at least, cry tears of joy. It’s a dream, I’ve always said, to win something with Portugal. We’re close and I think we’ll win [the Euros].”
