Sir Alex Ferguson responded by holding direct talks with Sporting Lisbon to accelerate the move to get it done earlier.
Speaking of a Sky Sports program celebrating Cristiano Ronaldo’s career, the Scot manager said: “We had an agreement with them nevertheless.”

Earlier, Ronaldo has revealed that Alex Ferguson made no secret of his wish to sign him straight after the game had ended.
