Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas has revealed that his playing days are numbered, after becoming the joint-most capped player in the history of the European Football.

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper made his 166th appearance for Spain on Sunday in goalless draw against Romania.

On reaching to the milestone, Casillas  said on Periscope:  “I am happy to reach 166 games and be the player with the most games for the national team,” he said on Periscope. “In these years I have lived good times and bad times, but I will stick with the good ones.

“The time of my retirement is getting closer and closer. It’s clear that time passes everyone and I am no exception of that.

“But I have hope and I would like to be with this team full of youngsters. I don’t know if it’s my last year with Spain, I only think about enjoying each day.”

“[Vicente] Del Bosque will call up the 23 players that he thinks are the best,” said the former Real Madrid keeper. “[Rico] is a great keeper who has worked hard and will get his chance with the national team.”

Meanwhile Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud feels that Karim Benzema sex tape scandal can affect the spirit of the French squad, ahead of the Euro2016. The Real Madrid striker is facing the axe, following his alleged involvement in the blackmail plot surrounding Mathieu Valbuena.

“It is something that can pollute our spirit. I try not to think about it as it prevents us from concentrating on matters on the pitch. It is the pitch which is the most important,” said Giroud.

“The question does not come up. The objective is to have strikers who complement each other the best,” said Giroud.

“I don’t ask myself the question of Karim or ‘Valbu’. The most important thing today is the team.”
