Portugal vs Chile Match Preview: Confederations Cup

Portugal and Chile are on top of their group, ahead of countries like Italy, Spain, France, Brazil and Argentina. This is, in itself, an accomplishment, but now the two teams are doing their best to make it to the big final of the Confederations Cup big final.

Portugal was denied a win against Mexico, after Javier Hernandez scored an equaliser during the injury-time in the opening match. The team realized that they would have to defeat Russia on home soil, and with Ronaldo’s early goal, they showed that it was an easy task for them. The European Champions defeated New Zeeland in the last group match and secured the first place in the group, as well as a place in the semifinals.

Portugal will hit the field with a team of young and energetic players such as Bernardo Silva, Andre Silva, Andre Gomes, and Raphael Guereiro, and they will be led by veterans, with Ronaldo being the backbone of the team. He showed incredible form at club level, and has carried that forward to the Confed Cup. He has scored two goals in the tournament, and currently, shares the top position with Lars Stindl and Timo Werner.

The other side, Chile, will give a tough challenge, after fighting hard in all three of their previous matches, especially after their incredible 1-1 draw against Australia. They had a 2-0 victory over Cameroon, with the goals coming late, thus showing their attacking skills.

Their biggest strength is in two most famous players, Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez. Vidal is considered the backbone of this Chilean team, with complete physical, emotional and mental commitment throughout the match. On the other hand, Sanchez is the team’s top scorer, but he is suffering from an injured ankle and it is deteriorating.
