Paul Scholes has compared Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford free-kick  technique to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s set-piece delivery.

Rashford, who burst on the scene following his match winning display against Midtjylland and Arsenal, and Scholes has backed him to follow the footsteps of Real Madrid‘s all time top scorer.

“Rashford is no surprise to me at all,” he told the United We Stand fanzine. “I’ve seen him play since he was 14 or 15 and then in Paul McGuiness’s [former United under-18s coach] side.

“You always knew the talent was there. He’s obviously only played a few times for the first team and his goals have been what you’d call ‘goalscorers’ goals’  but he’s got so much more than that.

“He’s quick and he’s good outside the box and he can smash a ball too.

“You’ve not seen any yet, but he hits free kicks in a dipping fashion, almost the way [Cristiano] Ronaldo does.”

While Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate ripped Manchester United, after their shambolic display against Liverpool in Uefa Europa league.

“There’s a lack of fight. I see Lallana after an hour stud rolling, he’s almost taking the mickey. Someone go and tackle him, smash him.

“It was shambolic. For 20 years Man United had an identity. You were going to play fast football, you were going to pass the ball forward, you were going to tackle, you were going to run. The last three years they’ve just gone away from that, something that worked.

“You look at the pitch tonight, what are they trying to do? I’ve got absolutely no idea. You know what I don’t want to see after this, the players saying sorry. Stop talking in the media and on social media and start playing.

“Where is this club going at the minute? I’m not too sure, they’re going the wrong way, there’s no doubt about that.

“Manchester United have spent £300m in the last three years. They should be up there with Barcelonas, the Real Madrids and the Bayern Munichs of this world because of the resources they’ve got.

“The money they’ve spent and they’re sixth in the Premier League. I never like to see anyone lose their job, I want him to get it right.”
