Mathieu Valbuena U-turn over Karim Benzema blackmail case?

Mathieu Valbuena’s lawyer has clarified that his client  has not changed his position over Karim Benzema blackmail case, despite of midfielder of willingness to play alongside Real Madrid striker in Euro 2016.

Valbuena’s lawyer Didier Domat rejected the idea that his client has changed his stance over Karim Benzema, just for the sake of being selected for France’s Euro 2016 squad after both players were dropped by French boss.

What Le Monde revealed [on Monday] changes nothing,” Domat told L’Equipe.

“Don’t forget that after his hearing, we clearly stated that Mathieu, for who the French team means a lot, was intelligent enough to put his personal interests behind the interests of the French team and, if circumstances dictated it, there would be no problem for him being on a pitch with Karim Benzema again. That was said during his hearing.

“Today you’re saying to us that he’s done a U-turn because he said he could eventually be on the pitch with Karim Benzema… but what’s new in that compared to our comments after his hearing?”

“But I repeat that we’re not excluding the fact that Mathieu might, in the interest of French football, find himself in the French team with Karim Benzema again.”

Earlier, speaking about Real Madrid striker, Valbuena insisted.

“Of course [I can play with Benzema], anything is possible. There’s no problem,” he told TF1.

“[On his recent omission], I spoke with the Coach and understood his decision.

“It was a shock at first and I found it hard to accept, but I’ve come to understand it since then.

“My performances haven’t been bad [for Lyon], but my numbers aren’t good.

“If I have a good run for my club, I don’t see why I won’t return to the France team.”
