“There are no easy opponents in the [Round of 16]. Roma are a great team and we knew they’d create danger. We endured and the victory was fair,” he said as he reflected on Tuesday’s fixture.

“There’s no rival to fear in the quarters. We are Madrid. We have the level to win the Champions League. There are always things that can be improved but this is the line to follow.

“There are stronger and weaker opponents, as always, but no easy opponents. Teams want to play Madrid? They’re wrong because we are a great team.

Keylor Navas had a great game. He does a spectacular job and again demonstrated the great goalkeeper he is.”

“It would be amazing. I’ll concentrate on my work and whatever happens, happens,” he noted.

However BT Sport pundit and Former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves doesn’t feel Real Madrid will win Champions League this season.

“That performance won’t scare anyone in the Champions League. Before you would have thought Real Madrid are one of the top teams but that was careless. They could have been down in that game but the only difference was they took their chances.”

“It will be two seasons without major honours if they don’t win it and that’s not good enough for a club like Real Madrid. Despite a somewhat turbulent season on the domestic front, Real have looked strong in Europe. And with Bale, Modric and Benzema all returning in the next week or so they should be fresh and ready to go for a big final push.”
