LFP President speaks about Gerard Pique’s controversy

LFP President Javier Tebas has suggested that everyone should look past the Gerard Pique’s controversy, and says as a Real Madrid fan he took Barcelona man comments as a joke.

“It’s wrong to say what’s been said about a teammate, but as a Real Madrid fan I take it with some humour,” Tebas said after a meeting with European sports reporters, Marca says.

“I don’t like what he’s done but we all know what Pique is like. There’s no need to make a martyr out of him or to have him shot.

“We shouldn’t take things out of context. Some players will be on bad terms and others better. When [Pique and the Madrid players] are together in the national team they’re able to get on and win titles for our team.”

A defeat on Sunday in the hands of Villarreal has left Real Madrid 5 points adrift from the top, as they missed the chance to close the gap to the top, Javier Tebas believes Los Blancos  can still catch Barcelona in the title race.

“Madrid have recovered seven or eight points’ difference.”

“There’s still a lot of League to be played and if Madrid win at Camp Nou [the gap] would be only four points. It’s exciting and it’s even, as we all wanted.”

Tebas also talked about Real Madrid expulsion from the Copa Del rey, after fielding ineligible Denis Cheryshev

“I think it’s always right to defend your rights. If Madrid believe this is what they have to do, then it’s what they should do,” Tebas suggested.

“In my opinion it’s a complicated legal issue. They have to respect the decision and there shouldn’t be any more bad blood at Madrid.

“Any club would have appealed and now they have to respect the decision.”
