Colombia head coach Jose Pekerman has warned Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez to be patient, as he will get his chance under newly appointed Zinedine Zidane.

The Colombian International has struggled to get regular first team football under his belt in this campaign, after missing start of the season due to injury.

James Rodriguez, who enjoyed fly start of Real Madrid career in his debut campaign, has found limited first- team opportunities this season on the return from injury.

Like the rest of teammate former Porto man endured uneasy relationship with Rafa Benitez,  after falling behind in the packing order with Spaniard faced the dilemma of choosing between James and Isco.

The Colombian International was hoping that situation will change under Zinedine Zidane, but 24-years old is yet to start a game since Frenchman has taken charge of Real Madrid.

However,  Jose Pekerman remains hopeful that James will be provided with opportunity to force his way back in the starting-11.

“He hoped there would be a coaching change and that the situation with Benitez would be resolved because he wanted to recapture his form of last season,” he told El Tiempo.

“I reassured him and still think the change will be positive for him.

“I still believe James is a great professional. He knows what it means to play for his country and has the mentality to succeed.

“It’s a bad spell and a new experience for a young man who has grown up very fast.

“Like all great players, he’s had a dip, but we haven’t lost the hope of him getting back to his best.

“He has to be patient. He is unsurpassed [in the national team] and has everything needed [to play for Madrid].

“We all want him to start [for Madrid] and translate them to the national team. He knows we need him in good shape.”
