Former Real Madrid star: I don’t regret joining Real Madrid

Sergio Canales says he doesn’t regret joining Real Madrid, as he failed to make impact at Santiago Bernabeu  and moved  to Real Sociedad.

The former Real Madrid star joined the Los Blancos from Racing Santander in 2010 at the age of 19, but was unable to make his mark at the Spanish capital. During his two years spell with the Real Madrid, Sergio Canales spent entire season on loan at Valencia, before leaving the Santiago Bernabeu on permanent basis for Real Sociedad after making only 15 appearances for the club.

However, Sergio Canales insists that his spell with Real Madrid was a positive experience, as he had the chance to learn from the best player in the World. Ahead of  Real Sociedad visit to Santiago Bernabeu, he told the pres.

“I don’t regret [moving to Madrid]. It happened as it happened, but you should never regret,” he told AS ahead of Wednesday’s fixture.

“A lot of thought went into it. [2010-11] was a strange year, but being surrounded by the best can’t be a negative.

“I’m staying with the positives, with everything I learned. It’s difficult to be a starting player in such a big team, but I learned from the best.

“In the end it was a short time and I didn’t play much, but the fans gave me a lot of affection. I have very good memories of them and my teammates.”

Canales also speak about his manager Eusebio Sacristan, who replaced former Manchester United manager David Moyes.

“The team is different, not better or worse. Before it was a more direct game and now we have possession and want the ball,” he acknowledged.

“I’m playing more, I’m happy. Eusebio arrived with things very clear and the team he wants. We have more confidence and we are more comfortable.”
