Barca star: Neymar not yet on same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Edgar Davids says Brazil captain Neymar is not on the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The Dutchman hailed the progress of former Santos man since his much-talked about move to Barcelona in 2013, after the slow start of Camp Nou career, Neymar was the decisive part of Catalans’s treble winning campaign, as he scored 39 goals in all competitions and has been nominated for Fifa Ballon d’Or along with  Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The Brazil International has become regular performer like Real Madrid star and his Barcelona teammate, and there is strong argument he is on the same level of usual suspects of  Ballon d’Or.

Neymar has netted 16 goals in this campaign, and took the central stage for Barcelona in the absence of Lionel Messi, who was out with knee-injury for two months.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won Ballon d’Or for three times, while claiming the prestigious award back to back into the running, while Lionel Messi has received for record fourth occasions, with new entry  Neymar joining them in to the mix for the first time.

Edgar Davids feels Neymar deserve huge credit for his development, after joining the  Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or  quest, however he thinks Neymar hasn’t reach to their level yet.

“Neymar is from Brazil so you have to come from a different country, you have to adapt to a different system, different players.

“He was a talent, still, talent alone is not enough – a lot of big players have talent – but really maximising that talent, working every day, mentally working [on] that talent every day, that is hard.

“It’s not easy and you see he’s maintained that and he’s stayed focused and now you see he is up there [but] he’s still not on that level of those two [Messi and Ronaldo].”
