The England Captain moved to Old Trafford from Everton in 2004, and formed formidable striking partnership with Ronaldo in the premier league.

Combined with the play-making qualities of Paul Scholesto fed the hunger of Portuguese and English striker, it was no coincidence Manchester United became the undisputed force of English Football.

Rooney also played alongside  Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, but feels none of them can match either Scholes nor Ronaldo

“I’d say there are two that stand out and they’re Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Rooney told his official website.

“Paul Scholes is one of the best midfielders of all time. His passing, vision and the way he controlled the tempo of games was incredible.

“Cristiano is a special player and he has gone on to be one of the best in the world.

“Some of the things he used to do in training and then take into games was unbelievable, he’ll always be remembered as one of the greats of the game.”

Speaking to a BBC documentary, Wayne Rooney – The Man Behind The Goals, Ronaldo admitted that he still missed playing with his former Manchester United teammate, and wishes to play with him again one day.

Real Madrid star hailed the mentality of Rooney and his ability to score goals.

“The power of Wayne Rooney is his mentality and his strength – he never stops. He’s a fantastic team player and he scores goals,” he said.
