Ronaldo’s mother Tweeted after he was subbed, to encourage her son

After Cristiano Ronaldo was pulled off the field during the La Liga match against Las Palmas, Ronaldo was visibly upset. He left the field without so much as making eye contact with Zidane, and while he sat on the bench, he was seen muttering angrily by himself. And like any doting mother, Dolores Aveiro, too, decided to do something to make his son feel better. She took to the social media to send a short and sweet message to his son. Ronaldo’s mother Tweeted after he was subbed to encourage her son to keep his chin up.

This short Tweet by CR7’s mom, posted along with a picture of Ronaldo, says, “Nunca abaixe a cabeça”, meaning “Never put your head down”. It is a simple message, encouraging Ronaldo to accept everything thrown in his way sportingly, and take it all into stride. True enough, Ronaldo, like any other human being, has had  and is likely to face more – situations that are frustrating. In such a situation, Ronaldo’s mother’s words are the best words that he could possibly hear. We can only hope that Ronaldo takes his mother’s advice and doesn’t feel embarrassed to see his mother Tweet about his substitution.

Ronaldo has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism since the end of the last season – much of which is baseless – all targeting his declining form, injuries, stats, slow start of the season, etc. Quite naturally, Ronaldo is under a lot of pressure to prove himself, and show the world that he is still a worthy member of Real Madrid. Needless to say, Ronaldo was upset when Zidane decided to remove him from the game around 18 min before the end of it – which meant that he had 18 minutes less to do his bit. Since the start of the match he had not been able to score a goal, and was quite evidently frustrated.

When Ronaldo left the field, he didn’t even look at Zidane. Even as he sat on the bench, his anger was visible in his body language, facial expressions and gestures. A viral video even shows that he was swearing, with profanities written in speech bubbles. In such a situation, Dolores’ Tweet is truly encouraging, and bear a true sportsman spirit.
