Ronaldo is Mendes’ only client at Real Madrid in 2017-18
Real Madrid’s star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, has a star agent – Jorge Mendes. The man has been responsible for the careers of many big names. He has been associated with players like Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria, Pepe, Fabio Coentrao and James Rodriguez. And it doesn’t end there. He is responsible for seeing into the association of these players with Real Madrid.

Mendes not only had a growing list of clients with the Spanish giants, but was also responsible for bringing Jose Mourinho to the Bernabeu. But, recent changes have affected that, and it seems that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain the only client of Mendes to be in association with Real Madrid. That is, if Ronaldo finally decides to stay back at the club.
Mendes has been busy before the beginning of the 2017-18 season as he oversaw the moves of his clients from Real Madrid. Coentrao moved to Sporting Lisbon, and Pepe joined Besiktas. And most recently James Rodriguez has moved to Bayern Munich on a loan deal of two years. This means that some of his major clients have left Real Madrid to join other teams this season.
As three major names have dissociated themselves from the Spanish club, it means that Ronaldo is the only player remaining from Mendes’ star-studded empire at the Spanish capital. It is indeed going to be upsetting for the Madrid superstar to see his close friends and long-time partners, Pepe and Coentrao, leave the club.

Meanwhile, the return of Ronaldo itself seems to be uncertain, as the player has not yet expressly mentioned his intention. The surety about Ronaldo staying back at the club was jeopardised after the recent tax defraudations charges brought upon him by the Spanish authorities.
After the accusations became public, Real Madrid stated that they had faith in Ronaldo’s innocence and sense of responsibility. However, the player thought that the club did not do enough to show their support, and was upset about it. From there, the whole rumour about him wanting to leave the club began.
However, Ronaldo later mentioned that he never threatened to leave the club, but merely mentioned that he was unhappy to his friends at a dinner. At the moment, the player is enjoying a holiday with his loved ones in the US, and he is out of the pre-season trip with Real Madrid. He is not part of the squad that has been declared recently, and is likely to join the club training in August, if at all he returns to the club.
