Gareth Bale insists he is proud of Wales display in their 2-1 defeat against England at Euros 2016.

Real Madrid star open the scoring for Wales from long range free-kick at the end of first half, but England came from behind to secure a win at the death from the strike of   Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge.

“The tournament is not over yet and we are still in it, so we’ll go into the next game against Russia with even more strength,” Bale told the BBC.

“We’ll keep fighting all the way. We knew that even if today’s result wasn’t great we’d still be in the thick of things.

“Obviously, it’s a massive disappointment but I’m very proud of everybody. We gave everything, as we always do, and as I’ve said before if we go out and give 100 per cent then we can have no regrets. We can’t do any more.

“Inside we are still strong, happy, and we’re enjoying the experience. We still have one more game to go in this group.”

While, Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann has suggested that England goalkeeper Joe Hart was scared of Gareth Bale and eventually made a error to concede a opening goal.

“I think that Joe was a little bit nervous in that situation and probably the whole game because always being told ‘we are favourites, we have to win, it’s just Wales and they are the underdogs.’

“All of a sudden Gareth Bale came up for the free kick and he didn’t need to put up a three-man wall first of all because it would have given him a better sight to defend that ball without a wall.

And then he’s used the wrong technique on top of that because I think he hasn’t used his palm, he’s used his fists.

“From that distance, you never put up a wall in training- but in an important game he does.

“It tells you something about his mental state. He was a bit scared.”
