Rafael Benítez’s Real Madrid have drawn more games than last season

Real Madrid has played seven matches till date where they managed to win four and drawn three games which are higher at this point than in the whole of last season. In the last season under the control of Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos could draw only two matches whereas Benítez side is still unbeaten in this season.

Rafael’s side believes that those three drawn games were winnable. Real Madrid just failed to utilize their complete potential against  Sporting Gijon and Malaga, but the match against Atletico states about a different story.

Villarreal is at the top position of the La Liga table followed by Real Madrid. Barcelona has lost two games and won five and are at the fourth place. Celta de Vigo have played similar to Real Madrid with 3 draws and 4 wins and is following the later. Atletico is at the 5th position with 13 points.

Real Madrid won 22 straight matches last season, the fact of the matter is that titles don’t end in October. Some of us do think that Real should have taken the advantage of the derby to maintain a distance in the points chart against Barcelona.

Benitez spoke about 77th-minute substitution of Karim Benzema against Atletico.

He said: “I needed to give the team some balance at that point in the game. I’m a huge fan of Benzema. If I were Karim, I’d also be angry at being taken off when I thought I was playing well and was on a great run of form.

“What I’d do if I were Karim is score more goals so that next time I don’t have to be taken off and can say, ‘hey, here I am.'”

He added: “Cristiano is undeniably first-choice. The advantage he has over the rest is his ability to bang in 50-plus goals a season.

“Having Cristiano always out on the pitch guarantees us the chance of nicking a goal or more. Therefore, I try to keep him out there for as long as I can. Would I hesitate to bench him? No, not for a second.”
