Villarreal kicked off the game in ascendancy, with Roberto Soldado goals provided early lead to the host and yellow Submarines dominated the most part of the first half.  Rafa Benitez’s side were uneventful with their display in the first half and failed to create clear cut chances.

Real Madrid started the second half with intent and desire, however couldn’t find the equalizing goals with Real’s front three struggled to impact the game, following their splendid display in the Champions League against Malmo in the midweek.

Despite of having 20 shots on the goal, visitors were unable to score, and former Liverpool is disappointed with the lack of composure of his players in front of goal, and has challenged his players to become more clinical.

“It’s difficult to explain, but these things sometimes happen. I’m not happy at all with the first half. In the first half we didn’t play well. I expected the team to play the way it did in the second. In the second half we didn’t take our chances, but we did what we should have done from the start.

“It’s a league season in which teams are going to drop points. All the teams at the top are going to drop points. To challenge for the title you have to win a lot of games and these types of matches, with the favourable situation that existed before kick-off, are there for us to really lay down our title intentions.”
