“He is still an excellent player though. At Madrid there are great players and he should face great competition in midfield but it is normal.

“It would not be easy but he can be one of the greats, I am sure of it.”

While, Manchester United’s David De Gea has insisted that he will honor his contract at Old Trafford despite of Real Madrid interest.

“There’s a lot of talk even though not a lot is known. I understand how it is, but it seems to me a lack of respect when [it’s as if what’s said] is out of my mouth,” he told Marca.

“I have three more years at United and my hope is to keep winning trophies. To talk about Mourinho is talk about a winner, and that is United’s philosophy and mine.

“Clearly not being in the Champions League is a blow but we won the FA Cup after 12 years and three without any trophies. That’s a very important trophy for the fans. It’s a step to winning major trophies again.”

“I hope so, as I expect everyone in the squad hopes to start. I’m ready for what Vicente del Bosque decides and to help the team,” he added.

“Iker has spent his entire life as a captain, first Madrid and then the national team. I respect him for everything he has done in football. He’s an exemplary captain. He’s always helping, encouraging, and giving everything he can.

“My relationship with him is good. He’s an example for everyone, an exemplary captain and so is Sergio Ramos. The national team has two great captains and two examples for everyone.”
